Fighting Shoe Crime… One Post at a Time

A question I get a lot from readers emails is about all these websites popping up claiming to sell Christian Louboutin for too-good-to-be-true prices.

Well ladies and germs… if it seems too good to be true, it almost always is. Yep. Your momma was right! *snap snap*
I’m sorry to break the news but sites like madpurchasebay and louboutinbox are full of shit. Yes. They are FAKE. I’m not sure why they don’t get shut down. You’d think that the people over at Louboutin, YSL, Jimmy Choo, etc would have a better legal team on top of stopping knock offs. It seems to be getting out of hand as of late. Google adds are the worst because they don’t censor stuff like this and they end up on reputable people’s blogs! I had to remove my adds because I noticed sites like these that I refuse to endorse.
Some good rules of thumb when looking for deals on authentic Louboutins are:
-Never buy from websites that look as low-buge as these do. I mean, the first one stole a picture of me wearing my glitter shoes and put it on their front page. haha.
- If they ship from Hong Kong or China, it’s almost always fake.
-If it’s not a reputable online store (ie: Barneys, Saks, Neimans, Browns, etc) don’t chance it!
-If it’s on ebay and you’re not sure- make sure they guarantee authenticity before you buy. And again… if they’re shipping from Hong Kong… it’s probably fake.
For me, I can usually look at a picture (if they aren’t using a photo from someone’s REAL shoes and swapping them out on you) and tell if they are fake. The color is off or the shape looks wrong. These shoes are probably not real leather either, and in person will look like total garbage. I realize that most people aren’t as shoe crazy as I am so they don’t see the subtle differences.
Just take notice if the website uses photos like this:
mixed with photos like this:
Pretty lame, right? What kind of legit website would do that? That’s one dead giveaway.
You will also see a scary difference in quality if you decide to purchase shoes from these type of stores.
This real shoe:
will come to you looking like this shitty shoe:
Do you see the difference? The shine on the heel is so blah on the second pair. The shape looks all wrong- the original is much sexier. Chances are the glitter will fall off in chunks too.
The reason I wanted to write about this is because it really pisses me off that people do stuff like this. They should at least admit what they are- knockoffs. I believe that selling a product and claiming that the shoes are authentic is like stealing your money. And though these seem inexpensive, at the end of the day 120something dollars is still a lot of money.
My problem isn’t with buying fakes to be honest. If you work your ass off and refuse to spend your hard earned cash on $700+ shoes… you’re smarter than I my friend. It’s your right to look how you want and wear what you want. My HUGE problem is with the lie.
I don’t like when people trick my friends and you are all my dearest ones. So please feel free to forward this post to any of your friends who have mentioned these types of sites. Also feel free to repost to your blogs (link me of course) and help spread the word.

I totally agree with you! sometimes I’d be tempted from this sites… but isn’t better to choose a pair of shoes inspired from a famous model from asos or topshop instead of a fake designer shoe from that sites?

    Great post.
All this stuff is “Made in China” as always.
I had a talk about this with chinese people, they don’t see where is the point !
They say: “we do it cheaper, so we are better …”
They don’t know what creation and quality means !
They just want to make profit, plenty of money to buy french cognac, real LV bags and Pierre Cardin shirts.
    Less than zero …
I love Asia and I am sorry about that.

I’m so glad to see more blog posts about this problem! A few months ago I found a post on another blog, and I also wrote about the problem. One of the things that really gets me is that if you shop the authorized retailers you can actually score fabulous deals, paying just a tiny bit more for the real thing!

    Cheers!

It’s less the existence of these sites that shocks me as it is the number of fashion bloggers that advertise these sites to their readers.

Ugh, I must be so naive– I bought a pair of Louboutins from one of these sites. The pair I got looked really good and looked super cute on. I ended up not liking them so I sold them for the same price I bought them for of course.

Wow, I have no idea how a website like that can claim to be authentic and not feel any repercussions. Have you filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau? I couldn’t see on their website where they claim to be based out of, so I think the BBB would be a good place to start.

Anon- THANK YOU for that article. That is terrible!!

  • eek Jul.21.2009, 2:37 pm

great post! some waitress at a bar told me about louboutinbox.com but as soon as I saw the website I knew they had to be knockoffs. I think you can find great shoes at reasonable prices without them pretending to be something else! And if all else fails, wait for a sale!

These sites are MUCH worse than scamming customers and selling knockoffs that infringe on Louboutin and YSL designs. This article is SO terrible I think everyone should read it, it makes you think twice about the ugly side of all the pretty things we buy.

    Fake products are everywhere!
You have to be especially careful in Russia and Ukraine.. it is almost impossible to find a REAL one!
They sell fake products even in Shopping Malls!

  • Emma Lilly Jul.21.2009, 6:29 am

I would just worry about how poorly made the fake ones are. The real ones cost more because they’re worth more. I hope they shut them down. I don’t understand why pay for the fakes if they’re so obviously fake?

  • kokostiletto Jul.21.2009, 3:12 am

thank you for these great tips !

  • Life99 Jul.21.2009, 1:57 am

Yes! The fake Loubie sites are running rampant! Why don’t they get shut down? I don’t understand!!!

  • Fashion Luvr Jul.21.2009, 1:56 am

I actually worked with a boutique that sells Ed Hardy swimsuits (gasp!) and I got them to the top of google when searching for the bikinis. So what is happening is the knock off companies just search on google, find the site, download the image, then upload it to their cart.

The difficulty is that their hosts are all over seas so it is almost impossible to have the site taken down. You can complain to google and yahoo otherwise you just need to put up with it. It totally sucks but it goes along with the fame.

  • AnecDitz Jul.21.2009, 1:46 am

i was SERIOUSLY wondering about the legitimacy of these sites.. i assumed they HAD to be fakes. what BOZO in their right mind would sell current louboutins for under $200?!?!
g-d bless you Celine – top notch post!!!!

IM SO GLAD YOU WROTE ABOUT THIS. WHAT A GREAT POST!

  • Mademoiselle Frou-Frou Jul.20.2009, 10:51 pm

i have been wondering why these sites haven’t been shut down…it’s crazy! i bet they won’t be around a year from now…
i have the real shoes, and pay a lot for them…i don’t want to see people wearing the knock-off of what i’m wearing!!
