Trend Spotting: The Sneaker Wedge

I‘ve noticed this weird thing about sneaker wedges. They’re EVERYWHERE!!!!

I think they’re super cute but these Isabel Marant ones down yonder are over $600 which is kind of lame if you ask me. And since you’re reading, I assume you’d ask me.
I’m not one to shy away from spending some serious cash on awesome shoes but for sneakers?? Eeeeeeeeehhhh…. I dunno. Plus, I’m a little weary cause it kind of reminds me of the time I was really into buying Nike dunks. I bought some limited edition ones I found in LA and a pair in Japan that looked like they were made of unicorns. I wore them with skinny jeans and hipster scarves. That phase didn’t last long.
These are different though I think. There’s something chic about them. The height helps elevate them if you’ll excuse the cheesy play-on words.

I’m still a little on the fence. Maybe I’ll start out with an inexpensive pair to test the waters. What do you think??

Weird… I could see how they would look cute, but.. they end up just looking really strange.

What I like about these shoes is their unique style of combination of rubber shoes and wedge shoes. it makes them more fashionable.

I just bought some from Aldo…they don’t even look like they have a heel. They were really inexpensive, only $45! So I had to give them a try.

@marilena I sincerely apologize and changed it. I have heard them called that a lot and didn’t really think about WHY they were called that… really had no clue it was a specifically Arab clothing item. Please just chalk it up to me being naive and not me meaning to be hurtful! :(

I generally love your blog, but I cannot believe you used the term “terrorist scarves”. I can only assume you are referring to an arab keffiyeh, which I’m sure it would have take an incredibly short google to found out before spouting war-mongering, islamo- arabo- phobic nonsense.

All prior sneaker wedges have made me want to barf a little in my mouth however the Marant ones I dig a little (aka quite a bit). Dang.

UG of the UGLY,….Terrible, I couldn’t imagine you wearing these either!

  • Laura Feb.09.2012, 5:27 pm

I have to say I really like them & I’m lusting after the ash pair. I’m a heels girl but I will wear flats when I feel or when needed. I must say a little voice in my head is screaming ‘heeled trainers! (as we call them)utter ridiculous-ness!’ but they look so cool, showed them to my sister, she hates them!

  • Call me M Feb.09.2012, 5:15 pm

I really dislike the Isabel Marant sneakers! They are huge and unflattering, no matter how many people wear them.

I think they’re ugly seriously. If I want to wear sneakers, I’ll wear sneakers… although I highly doubt that. The only sneakers I have are my running shoes and the other pair is a faux pair of keds I wear on my dog trips. If I want to wear wedges, I’ll wear wedges. I don’t see the point of combining them. Despite my serious dislike for them they do look comfortable, but not enough to even try a pair.

I love em! The last ones are really cute.

I really like them, because I’ve never been much of a sneaker girl, but the wedge makes them chic. I’ve always hated sneakers. But for someone like me that likes to wear heels all the time, even if they’re only 1 or 2 inches, these would be perfect for running to the store, or casual days, when you still want to feel girly.
